Starman! Wasn't it Starman where they defined love as caring for someone more than you care for your own needs? Or am I making that up?

I don't know, exactly.

But this is what Michael taught me that love means.

Actually, I think he says it like this: "Love is caring about the other person's needs more than your own wants."

I don't think it means giving up everything you want, nor do I think it means that one person can control another by voicing/having greater needs---at least, not all of the time.

But I think it means that in a good relationship, both people can set aside their wants to help meet the other person's needs some of the time, in ways that produce harmony and balance.

I think there's more here, though. Really loving someone else isn't about fulfilling a craving, addiction, or needing a crutch.

It's about joy that the other person is in the world.

Real, deep love is unconditional. And it's about the desire for the other to be genuinely happy, not about just giving them stuff or feeding their delusions.
