I'm taking Trent and Michael to Ostara today, to watch cobraemt fulfill one of his initiation requirements. He has planned this for months and I think it will be delightful. Plus, Trent loves Ostara.

I did the requisite Sabbat morning phone call from one organizer to another:

"OK, we're bringing x, y and z. What else do you need?"

Cobra: "Nothing. We're good. We have everything."

Pause.

Sabrina: "Do you have charcoal? Everybody forgets charcoal."

Cobra: Silence. "We do not have charcoal."

Sabrina: "It's OK. I'll bring it. I've been screwing up rituals for decades and I know just what usually happens."

Lots and lots of silly laughter...

F also loves Ostara - so much so that we have just made it a sabbat celebration where folks can just choose to bring their kids. Besides, kid energy just fits so well with what we do, and their seeds grow the best!

I actually wrote a class that I give to everyone before initiation, and to a handmaiden-to-be just before the broom is passed. It's all about the practical things that folks forget about.

(Does the incense need charcoal? Make sure there is charcoal. Make sure there's a lighting method. Unless ritual is out in wild, have a libation bowl - check three times for the libation bowl, because if you're going to forget something, that's likely going to be it.) It's a fun class, actually, because it makes folks less nervous about taking a more responsible role in the coven after they hear the stories of the foibles that went before them.
