Damn. I'm out of twine. Because I am leaving town for a week on Saturday morning, this is a problem. The tomatoes are now all higher than I can reach on my tiptoes, stretching up, and I have to tie them together firmly before I go or they will collapse during the 10 days that I am gone. Rats.

It looks like all the tomatoes will ripen while I am out of town. damn.

Ripening Fruit

It is always that way. The height of raspberry season is the July 4th week when we usually camp (it was late this year due to the rain - we scored). The tomatoes are usually ripest the end of August when we visit family in Vegas (not this year - no dinero).

We simply let our friends and neighbors know to help themselves. Alternatively, you could pick the green tomatoes, put them aside and eat them when you return. (Not as tasty, but, there you go).

Have a productive trip. Despite the amount of work I know it will be, I wish I could do it too.

Well, at least I know now that it's universal tendency (like restaurant food coming to your table while you're in the bathroom) and not just my bad luck. I will indeed ask all my friends to come over and pick all the ripe produce they can carry and take it home and eat it. It would be a shame for it to go to uneaten!

I hope the trip will be fruitful and promote our growth. I'll plan to pass along anything really cool that I learn that you might be interested in at the family gathering in October. : ) Hopefully, I'll have something uselful and interesting to tell you.

I'm jealous! I've been out of town too much to really have my garden in order...not that I'm complaining.

Best of luck with the garden, and have fun in your travels.

Thanks Linda! I wish I could share some of the goodies with you. Maybe sometime in August or September... : )

Garden issues

Our hot, dry summer has accelerated most plant growth, in fact, surprisingly, I've heard that the blueberries up at Denali Park are already ripe! Yikes! That's almost 2 months ahead of time! The fireweed has topped out, the irises and lupine are all gone, and I have strawberries a few weeks in advance. It was so depressing to look at my missing lettuce starts that we planted bright metallic pinwheels where the salad would have grown, only to have the 18 hours a day of sunlight fade them in 3 days!! Ah well, there is always next year!

Hope you have a good trip - is this for work or play? I'll be going to Juneau on business in 2 weeks myself.

Take care!

Stephanie

Wow...things are running much faster than usual up there. At least the strawberries are a lucky break!

I am going to Colorado to see Ruth (of David and Ruth) with Ken. And work on my sadly behind schedule dissertation, which MUST be mailed out in early August.

I miss you! I can't wait to have a life.
