Date: 2011-09-13 01:48 pm (UTC)So, of course, the obvious thing to do is put on grounding music, and then post about it.
Laughing...
I was only about ten minutes away, and once I got re-oriented, it was alright. Had a couple of unfortunate incidents this month, though. I need to get a grip and start grounding every morning before I even get in the car.

Date: 2011-09-13 06:08 pm (UTC)I'm aware of exactly one example where that went well, and it only went well in the context of "well, this is better than my daughter dying because she fell asleep at the wheel." Followed by "hey, wake up, we've come to an intersection and you have to make a decision."
NOT the approved method.
Drawing in the someOne-else-take-over sense isn't exactly a danger for me, but trancing in the car most certainly is. That's why I never, EVER listen to drumming or trancey music while I drive. Too easy for awareness to drift. If I need music to stay awake, I choose stuff with lyrics that I already know (often musicals, but doesn't have to be -- they just last a long time and I tend to know the entire show), and, if alone, sing along as loudly as seated breathing will allow. No real way to fall asleep if you're working your lungs and diaphragm that hard, I've found.
I used to try to chew gum, but it turns out I can fall asleep with gum in my mouth. Actively chewing and swallow *food*, on the other hand, seems incompatible with falling asleep, so pretzels or beef jerky work pretty well. If you're really tired, though, you have to keep eating pretty continuously.
Anyway, glad you're okay! :-)

Date: 2011-09-13 06:50 pm (UTC)So to update our latest, worst-case driving scenario:
I'm driving, you're navigating
...at night
...in the rain or snow
...while listening to drumming or trancey music.

Date: 2011-09-13 11:16 pm (UTC)Since I often go driving with the specific intent if trancing and depend on automatic driving (ike automatic writing ;), I try this on Sundays an on highways so the traffic is minimal and no lights. So far, so good.
