Aug. 20th, 2011 06:59 pmThank god for the Internet, and for LJ, which allows for thinking and reflection on ways that are easy and good.
The wedding was wonderful, and now that it's over, I can relax a bit. It had many elements I really liked: the groom was relaxed about incorporating the couple's infant, and the baby's gleeful exclamations didn't ruffle things much at all. Everyone clapped when wee Lucas successfully made it down the long aisle, props intact. The ceremony included a Dine (Navajo) blessing, a guitar trio, bagpipes, and Pablo Neruda in Spanish and English. Beautiful.
The best thing: at one point, every one of the men in the wedding party was crying: the groom, his brother, Michael---all of them unashamed and right there with their emotions. Michael had joked that it would just be weird if all the groomsmen wept and the bridesmaids didn't, but I thought it was wonderful. They were just there, being open about what they felt, and not caring who saw. Good men, every one.
And now we're all milling about the giant patio with 300 other people and a full mariachi band. Later, there will be pop and rock and roll, and the hum of people chatting in English, Spanish and Dine. It will be good, and I will enjoy watching everyone celebrate. As soon as I can, I'll ditch these heels and start worshiping the band with my feet.
Congratulations, Kim and Eric. May you have many years of peace, love and happIness!
