Listen, I will tell you an awful secret,

A terrible heresy, a forbidden Truth:
This life is meant to be enjoyed.
We are here to play in the Garden-
To be ourselves, only more so
To make happy and be happy, love and be loved.
(Beloved, be Love!)

Say this and be damned,
Do this and be scorned,
Dare this and win!
Dance this life, grow drunken on it,
Make laughter your ally
In this alchemy.

All the biggest lies of history deny this:
Life is not meant to be suffering;
The addition of those words-
Click as tumblers fall, the lock moves,
Light shines around the edges
Of the door to Joy.

From a dear friend of mine, who got it from who-knows-where: "Asceticism is another name for the sin of ingratitude."

Even the Bible (yep!) says, "All things in moderation". ALL things, not just the good stuff, or the stuff that makes one giddy with joy. All things. Man was never created to be unhappy, downtrodden, sad.

In my study, I have a picture of Jesus, and he's laughing. Head back, eyes closed, sheer joy-laughing. I keep it to remind myself that this is the shared heritage of mankind---not the (ominous voice) deep, dark sin and damnation of so many people today, but the light and love and laughter that is ours for the taking---shucks, for the embracing! We choose life. We choose joy. Or not.

Since I have the choice, I think I'll take life, love, and laughter, please. :)

I am very happy with the response that poem has gotten... when I saw it on the front page of the FoV site, my head about exploded or something. ;-)

Thank you. That means a lot to me.

Incidentally, the version on the FoV page was a little inaccurate, so I had them correct it...
