...according to the (hospice?) nurse whose thoughts contributed to this article:

http://thenextweb.com/lifehacks/2011/05/31/the-top-5-regrets-people-make-on-their-deathbeds/

1. "I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me."

2. "I wish I didn’t work so hard."

3. "I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings."

4. "I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends."

5. "I wish that I had let myself be happier."

I'm working on 2 and 5.

One of my all-time favorite quotes, and I wish I could attribute it properly, is: "No one's last words were 'I wish I'd spent more time at the office.'"

Smiling...I know I can.

I can do anything.

Phoenix says so.

Grinning.

I'm working on #4. I should probably work in #2 but as I make my career change I'm not sure that's an option right now.

I thought this might apply to you too...

for me, #1 is tied very closely to #2 - living my true self is requiring a lot of hard work careerwise. I'm thrilled to do it and it isn't something I'll ever regret.

Maybe. Sometimes, yes. I'll never be a slacker. : )

But I am hoping to allow more delight in and relax more!

eeeh. going thru this. trying to unplug and ENJOY my kids as opposed to cnstantly worrying about the neverending stream of hosuewokr.

going thru high school stuff--why didn't i push myself more? why did i hold myself back?

So the answer is simple (but not easy): you can't change what you did then, but you sure as hell can change what you do now!

Push yourself more, if that would bring you into better balance.

Don't hold yourself back!

#3 is likely to be my deathbed regret. If I could admit all my feelings, it would mean that I had enough friends and family that I could risk losing.

Hmmm, it may not be so challenging as all that. I wonder if there may be some false beliefs hiding beneath all of this?

Hugging you.

I'm learning to not let miserable people bring me down. John Lennon, "Don't bring me down; don't bring me down."

From one of my favorite poets, Mary Oliver...
The Journey

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,...
as you strode deeper an deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do--
determined to save
the only life you could save.

And I did. And I have.
