Oh. My.

And Judy Taymor doing her own interpretation of the Tempest? Can't wait to see that...

Holy cow!

Now I want to go and re-watch Prospero's Books (I saw it in the theatre when it came out and it was sensually overwhelming)!

I do wish the director of the Hildegard film had had the courage to paint up the set to show how gloriously colourful mediaeval churches and cloisters were. I know the austerity of the plain stone gives that dark, brooding feel, but it does remove whole layers of context.

Still, I am tremendously excited. So, so looking forward to seeing this! It looks from the trailer that they've made it as much about her visionary experiences as the institutional politics - I really hope that's true. Practically vibrating in my chair, here!!

What next? A film about Hilda of Whitby would be amazingly cool :)

Do you remember the party we had where we ran Prospero's Books in the background?

It's such a delicious, sensual movie and so impossible to watch with the left side of the brain...

perfect for background, painful for foreground

Oh, my goodness - I had forgotten it until now! Yes!

perfect for background, painful for foreground

When I saw it on theatrical release, one of my college friends wanted to go back the next night to watch it again. I couldn't. I just could not process it all sufficiently to cope - my senses were saturated, and my whole body felt overloaded. I have never, ever had that experience with a film before or since. Just astonishing.
