As of yesterday, "Blue Star Wicca and Friends" has made over $2000.000 in loans to Third World women and men from all over the globe!

Unbelievably, since June 22nd, we've grown to 31 members, who together have made 80 loans.

Congratulations, fellow international financiers! You are a force for global change. I am proud to be working alongside you.

This morning, we have even more to offer: our generous donor has given us over $1329.00 to distribute in $25-$50 microloans.

It's time for a KIVA party, and Wednesdays and Fridays seem to be best for many of our crew.

How about Wednesday the 28th, around 7:00?

How many local folks can make it on that evening? Who can call in and be a part of the fun from a distance?

Unfortunately, I will be in NYC with Jeannie seeing a play. I can give you my thoughts beforehand, though!

What you do is so inspiring. Thanks for doing it, and for sharing the word about change and financial wellbeing. You rock. Cheering you from London --

This is very cool.

Sadly, I can't call in on 10/28. But I trust you and the rest of the attendees to distribute things wisely.

Can you send me or post your loaning preferences? Who you'd like to look for, and/or in what part of the world? Other criteria?

I would like to see money go to women (re)building their own lives. Perhaps in non-traditional roles, in South and Central America countries. (the US is good, too)

I hope that helps!
Thank you for your leadership. :)

Have you seen that Kiva is now doing microlending in the US? What do you think of that?

I am OK with that so far. Poverty is poverty, and I am as committed to eradicating poverty here as I am to eradicating it anywhere else.

Hey, wow! This is great stuff, I had no idea! So, two things: 1. How do I get involved, i.e. make a donation? and 2. I could call in that evening. I believe I have your phone number (from the wedding) but I'll email you privately about that.

Hmm. I don't think I will be able to make it after all, it is a bit far for a week night. I'll let you know if things change!

OK, I'm a member. Now I have to figure out how to choose a person to send money -- or do I just give it to Kiva and Kiva chooses?

No, love. You choose. This is the beauty of it. You choose someone to help, based on what most moves your heart.

My friend Phyllis is an entrepreneur herself----she loaned to a women who was dealing with similar challenges to her own.

My friend Cynthia loaned to several women who are using their artistic talent to create jewelry and objects of beauty.

I've loaned to women who make money recycling, women who live in poor Latin American countries and women with really, really cool sounding names (I could help myself---i had to loan to a woman named Nazgul).

Trent loves candy and pumpkin bread. His first loan went to a woman asking for enough money to stock her small grocery with sweets and candies.

So, based on whatever criteria moves you, look, read and loan.

And THANK YOU for you generosity!

I love it----anything good can be made better if it is turned into a classroom curriculum.

Plus, there are already resources to help you do this if you want them---several teachers have already created KIVA-based projects for their own classrooms, and they've written about it, too.
