Every time healthy love and lifetime commitment are sanctioned through law and ritual, a little more joy fills the planet. It doesn't matter who takes the vows or how they are structured, as long as they are affirmed in open-hearted honesty, thoughtful agreement and committed love.

Date: 2008-10-30 09:16 am (UTC)The most common arguments I have heard for anti-gay marriage fall into the "God told me to hate you" category. And since in theory we have a separation of Church and State, those arguments should not have legal influence.
And if that is true then there is a very important American legal principle that should be in effect here, one that should allow people to marry who they choose, one so important that it isn't even part of the Constitution, but in the Declaration of Independence.
