You know, that phrase or sentence that most clearly describes what you are here to do with your life across all dimensions and domains.

Do you have one?

Is it clear to you? Evolving? Yet to be discovered? How did/do you discover it?

Mine: "I am an agent of transformation and change."

I guess mine would be something on the order of my deepest held belief---that we are here to take care of and love one another. I am here to take care of and love my fellow human beings. It's very clear, and yet, it's constantly changing as I learn what "taking care of others" means at any given moment in time. As I grow and learn and teach and become, the ways I go about this evolve and change, yet the statement remains the same.

I guess I've always known this deep down inside, but never had a way to express it until fairly recently---say, in the last seven or eight years of my life, and more when I became involved with the BDSM and Pagan communities. It's as if being around people who thought outside the box gave *me* permission to jump outside the box---and what can be better than that for transforming your life from the inside out. :)

Thank you for that thoughtful response. My community has taught me that BDSM, like Paganism, is a healing path for many, and your voice confirms this lesson. There is a continual stream of teaching coming my way---a wonderful thing.

BDSM is akin to Paganism, in that you can take from it what you need or desire, and leave the rest behind. There is much freedom in that community, although at first it seems to be restrictive. I found a great liberation there, and a new way of thinking about life and how we live it. I learned about my own limits, about surrender, about how to trust without question. I learned how to keep myself--my SELF--from being submerged into oblivion by another, and I learned how to speak up for myself in such a way as to be heard. I made priceless friendships, got hurt (badly), and learned even more about what I could and couldn't take, and set boundaries accordingly.

BDSM isn't for everyone, and it isn't much more than playing around for many BDSM practitioners---but for a few, it is a spiritual and emotional awakening to deeper truths, and a serious path into the well of the soul.

I simply cannot resist asking you more about each of these. I want to know what you mean by each one, and how you came to understand it.

The next time we spend time together, I will ask you about these.

Well.. Some of it is that I am, in many ways, still figuring it out. In another way, it's that I don't feel like I'm pigeonholed into one particular thing. I guess another way of expressing that would have been:

.*

or just

*

:)

Thank you. :)

".*" is a regular expression. "." matches anything, and "*" says "match 1+ of the previous expression, so in this case... anything. :)

"*" is shell (or DOS) speak for "match anything".. like the old question "Where are all of my doc files?"

dir /s *.doc

"Oh there they all are!" :)

Oops, there were more questions.

Is it clear to you? Evolving? Yet to be discovered?

It's clear, although the words "in themselves" are occasionally implied at the end. It hasn't changed much over the years, but I'm not sure I'm very good at it.

How did/do you discover it?

Franklin Covey system:
  • Define your values. Make a list of your values, and write a clarifying statement of each (using present tense and first person). For example: "Education. I am always learning. I enjoy reading about new things and ideas, and I look for chances to try and to practice new skills."
  • Define your roles. List the various hats you wear, the people involved, and describe your relationship with them.
  • Describe your legacy. Make a list of people you would like to have say your eulogy or write your epitaph. What would you have them say?

From those exercises, iterated with self-honesty, you can find your personal mission statement.

Forms to help walk through each step are in the back of the Starter Pages of the planner.

I don't know you well enough to have guessed at your mission statement, but it is intriguing. How does this manifest in your every day and work life?

I'm curious...

Also, thank you for posting this exercise. It's very, very useful and I will steal your rendering of it more than once, I suspect.

How does this manifest in your every day and work life?

I'm still working much of that out. I generally try to bring people up the hierarchy of needs, so that when they get Divinely inspired, they're able to notice. That's the root of my work in time management and financial discipline--trying to help people get controls of their lives so they can hear the gods.

Then I try to show others the divinity in others and themselves. The first way this manifests is in recognizing the humanity of others; I interrupt rants to say, "Well, maybe they see things this way." I also try to show the divinity of others by showing how they reflect love and peace (or other divine characteristics; sometimes these are hard to find, in which cases I usually point out that they're working through their own issues, on their own journey). And I try to give people opportunities to grow, develop, and discover their abilities.

Lastly, I use my work in ritual to help connect people as directly to the gods as I can. Tricky, when everyone understands the divine differently. I like using the myths in this exercise, but many people have trouble making the connections. I'm looking for ways to expand this connection work, since it's the part I enjoy most, and the part where I need the most work myself.

Hey, good question. Writing that out really helped me figure out how I'm doing it.
