What's Your Personal Mission Statement?
Apr. 5th, 2008 10:51 amYou know, that phrase or sentence that most clearly describes what you are here to do with your life across all dimensions and domains.
Do you have one?
Is it clear to you? Evolving? Yet to be discovered? How did/do you discover it?
Mine: "I am an agent of transformation and change."

Date: 2008-04-05 03:09 pm (UTC)I guess I've always known this deep down inside, but never had a way to express it until fairly recently---say, in the last seven or eight years of my life, and more when I became involved with the BDSM and Pagan communities. It's as if being around people who thought outside the box gave *me* permission to jump outside the box---and what can be better than that for transforming your life from the inside out. :)

Date: 2008-04-09 12:21 pm (UTC)BDSM isn't for everyone, and it isn't much more than playing around for many BDSM practitioners---but for a few, it is a spiritual and emotional awakening to deeper truths, and a serious path into the well of the soul.

Date: 2008-04-06 04:20 pm (UTC)Is it clear to you? Evolving? Yet to be discovered?
It's clear, although the words "in themselves" are occasionally implied at the end. It hasn't changed much over the years, but I'm not sure I'm very good at it.
How did/do you discover it?
Franklin Covey system:
From those exercises, iterated with self-honesty, you can find your personal mission statement.
Forms to help walk through each step are in the back of the Starter Pages of the planner.

Also, thank you for posting this exercise. It's very, very useful and I will steal your rendering of it more than once, I suspect.
Re: I help others find the Divine.
Date: 2008-04-10 12:39 am (UTC)I'm still working much of that out. I generally try to bring people up the hierarchy of needs, so that when they get Divinely inspired, they're able to notice. That's the root of my work in time management and financial discipline--trying to help people get controls of their lives so they can hear the gods.
Then I try to show others the divinity in others and themselves. The first way this manifests is in recognizing the humanity of others; I interrupt rants to say, "Well, maybe they see things this way." I also try to show the divinity of others by showing how they reflect love and peace (or other divine characteristics; sometimes these are hard to find, in which cases I usually point out that they're working through their own issues, on their own journey). And I try to give people opportunities to grow, develop, and discover their abilities.
Lastly, I use my work in ritual to help connect people as directly to the gods as I can. Tricky, when everyone understands the divine differently. I like using the myths in this exercise, but many people have trouble making the connections. I'm looking for ways to expand this connection work, since it's the part I enjoy most, and the part where I need the most work myself.
Hey, good question. Writing that out really helped me figure out how I'm doing it.
