95% to the Bronze
Mar. 16th, 2008 09:35 amAs of this morning I'm 95% of the way to the President's Challenge Bronze award. Exercise days with both weights and cardio add about a percentage point apiece to my total.
So I'm about 5 days away from earning the bronze medal.
On Friday, Spring Break begins in Scotch Plains. T. will be with his mom this year, and M. and I will be hiking a section of the Appalachian Trail in Shenandoah National Park. We plan to hike from March 21 -27. I'll be carrying about 35 lbs. to start and M. will carry about 45. We're excited about the trip.
I'm really hoping my tendons and ligaments will hold up well. We're training this week by walking with weighted packs for about an hour an evening in addition to working out. Last night my muscles were fine, but I quickly figured out I'd need to wrap my left knee for the trip or use a knee brace to support the connective tissue.
My goals:
1. Earn the bronze by Friday. Order the medal online before I leave.
2. Survive the hike in decent condition.
3. Take the pedometer, noting distances/steps each day.
4. On my return: log daily steps on everystepcounts.com; log daily time spent backpacking on presidentschallenge.org
5. Jumpstart my race to the silver medal with a big boost from 7 days of hiking!

Date: 2008-03-16 03:53 pm (UTC)While you're hiking we will be rolling off the back of a boat in Mexico, floating on the current. Still fun, but not strenuous exercise.
Take lots of pictures and post them, OK?

Date: 2008-03-16 04:34 pm (UTC)I'd love to go rafting, and even diving, although i think the weekend before FSG isn't possible this year. interestingly, M. and I talked about how cool it would be for me to travel with my friends this morning.
We will take pics---have a wonderful time in Mexico, honey. You take pics too!
