Weighted Vest
Feb. 14th, 2008 08:48 amSo I bought a weighted vest. http://www.aswechange.com/itemdetail.asp?item=AA296
It was expensive---originally $70.00---but when I was offered a 15% discount on top of a 10% discount, my resolve crumbled. Still, the extra shipping fees ate up much of the savings.
Exercise equipment is my Achilles Heel. So now, I must get my money's worth.
I can add 20 pounds of weight in 1 lb. increments, and also look ridiculous when walking around the neighborhood for no extra fee.
Started off this morning by doing my usual leg day walking lunges, decked out in red flannel teddy bear jammy bottoms, a clashing fleece jacket, a hat and my new vest (just in case anyone might miss me as they left for work). To quote Harry Potter, "Ri-DI-culous!"
It looked a little odd, but it felt GREAT! The vest distributes the weight equally along my belly and back and it's comfortable so far. I used 8 lbs. to start, since I've been doing body weight walking lunges for several weeks now. I originally planned to use it only for fitness walking (to fend off the joint wear and tear of running) and for doing household chores, but I now see that I can use it for lunges and adding weight to squats and calf raises.
As a side note, I was shocked at how heavy only 8 extra pounds felt on my body.
Cool.
