Checking In

Clotaire Rapaille says that the American "culture code" for fat is "CHECKING OUT," as in, "I am overwhelmed and I am checking out of the demands of _________." In order to lose weight and become fit, he points out that one needs to figure out what one is unconsciously "checking out" of. Otherwise, all conscious effort will be undone by the desire of your subconscious to avoid grappling with something that remains unaddressed.

I think I've been checking out of many things over the last year and a half, mostly due to the overwhelming prospect of finishing my book, processing Geo's passing, moving in with Michael and Trent and starting a new family life.

Clearly, I am checking back in. My lats are back.

Yeee-haw!

I'm down to a size 14! 14! I haven't been able to shop in stores that didn't specialize in large sizes since I graduated from college! The only other time I've weighed less than 180 as an adult was when I was dancing for seven hours a day (and eating one meal - I hated the food in Ghana after a while). That was not as healthy as what I'm doing now. I have another 21 pounds to go to my goal, and I finally think I can do it.

Now, back to playing with F. Whee!

This is fantastic! Don't let anything push you off of this goal. You are so good at taking care of others---and many others really need your help---that I worry you will have to fight to stay focused on yourself.

Also take care of your beautiful self, tigira...
