So much is happening in our small community: births, serious injuries, quick changes. It's almost too much to absorb. I don't know how other people do this, especially with children. I am just trying to keep up. We are praying for D and hoping for a full recovery after last night's accident. Thank you, catpaw67, for keeping us updated! I am so glad that Dorothy, Sarah, Dan, Phyllis and the babies are doing well---D's unexpecteed injury reminds me that I cannot take this good fortune for granted.
Last night we went trick-or-treating. Trent was an 'Ice Ninja' and Michael was a dark fairy (horns, black jeans and a black 'Antichrist in '08' long sleeved shirt). He also had maroon and black wings---thank you, vgnwtch!. I was a vampire: a long red and black vampire dress, pink horns, lots of makeup and nail polish blood dripping from one corner of my mouth.
We went to two neighborhoods where Trent found a Cub Scout friend. We joined that group of parents and children and trick-or-treated for quite a while. Later, the three of us went to the spiffy part of Westfield and trick or treated there in order to enjoy the elaborately decorated houses.
Afterwards, we went to 'Ginger Sushi' and had a great Samhain sushi dinner. They thought we were a little strange, but treated us very well: we set an extra place for Geo and ordered him a piece of eel and a piece of yellowtail. We also gave him some of our spicy tuna tartare appetizer. He used to make it for me on special occasions, like when I defended my dissertation. Yum yum! Our hosts accepted our eccentricity very kindly.
Trent learned to eat shrimp tempura rolls, we had a great meal, and we brought Geo's sushi back to the altar. It was lovely.
I finally started the last harvest of herbs and veggies yesterday so I could get it mostly done by Samhain. I waited too long on the basil but hung it up anyway. The lemon balm smells great, we have waaay too many hot chilis and lots of green tomatoes we hope will ripen. Although we had plenty of garden space this year, drying and ripening space is at a premium. We'll do the best we can.
We are gathering many of our belongings in storage and preparing to sell them on Ebay. We just don't have room for much of what we own and we want to stop paying for a rental space. Hopefully, we will be able to generate some cash for savings with the proceeds, although frankly, most of the savings will come from storage fees that we don't pay anymore.
The new life lessons seem to include this dictum: simplify, simplify, simplify!

Date: 2007-11-01 02:09 pm (UTC)I am in this mode as well. In addition to the spiritual peace it brings, I am preparing to downscale my living arrangements within the next year or two. I will never be able to retire with this house around my neck!
Love to all!
