Good Day, Tho' No Sunshine
Sep. 7th, 2004 01:09 pmIt's a great day so far. I am blissfully unconcerned about the small amount of dissertation work I did this weekend. This is probably due to the prodigious amount of endorphins that have been released into my body, accompanied by a big seratonin peak.
I did a smart thing today. I set everything up last night (coffee, cat food can, workout clothes)and got up early this a.m. (6:30) and immediately got ready to work out. It was easy because everything was all set up. Then I DID NOT get on the computer, but instead drank coffee, fed the cats and went into my am workout right away. 90 minutes later I had warmed up, worked legs, back, abs and biceps, cooled down and stretched twice. And I felt fantastic.
There was even time to shower, dress and throw the ingredients for tonight's chowder into the crock pot before work.
Here are the strategies that worked to help me get my work out in and out the door this morning...
0. Plan all my week's dinners in advance and shop for the ingredients on
the weekend.
1. Set up clothes, coffee and morning chore supplies the night before.
2. Do dishes or put them in the dishwasher the night before.
3. Walk right on past the computer when I get up. DO NOT LOG ON.
4. Drink coffee and set up food tracking page for the day, then go to the
gym immediately.
5. Do not clean the cat box before working out.
6. At the gym: start warming up before I am able to think of excuses not to
work out.
7. Stretch after warming up.
8. Keep heart rate moniter on during weight workouts to track calories expended.
9. Shower and dress immediately after working out.
10. THEN do nonessential chores as time allows.
11. Do fast prep for a crock pot for meal before I walk out the door.
12. Water plants in the evenings, not in the mornings---this is not optimal
for the plants, but we're at the end of the growing season anyway.

Date: 2004-09-07 12:59 pm (UTC)I plan to do my workout in about 20 min. And I have food that I took out of the freezer this morning that will go into the crockpot tonight for tomorrow's meals.
Good luck with your writing this evening!
