Spent all weekend working on the house from early till late (painting, organizing stuff and helping Michael so that he can continue to lay floor, then doing runs from his old place to the new place). Worked on it for most of the previous week's evenings as well, although I took Friday evening off to visit Geo. Thank you, Shannon, for all of your valiant and fantastic help Saturday and Sunday!
Dave also helped on Sunday and that was wonderful...without the help of another strong guy, I do not know how the big pieces of furniture could have been moved. And without him, moving the 200 lb. coffin into the tool and bike shed would simply have been impossible. It was an odd moment as Michael and Dave hauled that thing through our backyard at dusk, with Shannon and I following solemnly. She and I spontaneously began to chant as we followed, trying to keep straight faces the whole time. Dave began dragging one leg as he shoved it along, doing an excellent Igor impression. He sounded just like an old grade B horrow movie as he slobbered,"The Dark Master will be so pleased! He loves sheds...he loves to ride his bicycle!"
The house looks gorgeous, if full and half finished, but this week will be really, really busy as we try to wrap things up with the move. Michael has a couple of extra job-related things to do, I have my usual job stuff, along with 3 practice visits and meetings, and we have to fly out to Florida on Friday. Plus, Michael has till Thursday to get every last thing out of his old place and clean it. He'll probably be sleeping here for a few days because the new house is not yet livable. There will be no electricity for the next 2 days while Richard works on the electric box, and there has been no water since Friday (?). It may or may not be back on today.
I am excited, but really tired. I am so looking forward to calm, slow, low demand summer time. I hope we get some in July and August. : )
I have yet to even ride a bicycle this summer...
Oh well-- these are good problems to have: problems emerging from lots of love and tremendous opportunity.
Still very, very happy.

Date: 2006-06-27 12:33 pm (UTC)Michael and I chose colors for the various rooms (Sage, Sky Blue, Butnt Sienna) and a laminate floor (light bamboo) and have been renovating the place ourselves. Trent's mother and her honey are renovating the other half of the duplex, and all 4 adults are very civil and decent to each other, cooperating on multiple projects. Michael and his ex-partner are still friends and still very much committed to parenting Trent in a cooperative way, so they play nice with each other a large percentage of the time and still help each other a great deal. His ex's partner is also a very nice man who goes out of his way to be kind to us and to Michael in particular; he is sensitive to the challenges of the transition that Michael and his ex have been making---from life partners to respectful friends---and he tries hard to make it easier on us all.
There is a small kitchen and bathroom upstairs, and the central room---the heart of the home---is the dining room, as is proper in a Mediterranean/Latin home. : )
Both bedrooms are upstairs, too, and a set of stairs leads down to a finished 2-room basement, which we will be making into a gym/office and a small living/TV room, respectively.
As my lovely roommate and dear friend Shannon finalizes her moving plans and I find a home for my 2 beloved kitties (Michael is extremely allergic to animals with fur), I will finalize my own moving plans.
I am flying to Florida this weekend to be part of lovely Kayla's wedding---yay, she is so happy! And to finish my SCUBA certification so I can dive with her and Michael's family in the future.
love you!

Date: 2006-06-26 04:44 pm (UTC)There is currently a chainsaw-wielding man in my back yard. Disappointingly, in narrative terms, he's a lovely, rather shy bloke with a speech impediment, and we've just had a cuppa and bitched about Labour being sell-outs. But you can see our garden path now the hedgetriffid has been beaten into submission.
