one reason that Buddhism sings to me
May. 26th, 2006 07:46 amThere are no mundane things outside of Buddhism, and there is no Buddhism outside of mundane things.

Date: 2006-05-26 04:28 pm (UTC)I called myself Buddhist for about 12 years (starting in college) because it was the first religion I found I was not a hypocrite in. I changed to Paganism after a bad experience with a cult that claimed to be Buddhist. Dion Fortune points out in one of her books why Buddhism is not ideally suited for people living in the West and I can share with you sometime what she says exactly and why I agree with her.
For me, one of the largest reasons Buddhism called to me was the premise.
Christianity's premise is "You were born polluted (original sin) and continue to be a dissapointment to god and only Jesus was perfect and the best you can hope for is to convince this perfect spirit to forgive you and if you don't you BURN IN HELL."
Buddhism's premise is "Buddha was born human and became Enlightened. Someday you will become enlightened as well, if not this life, then maybe the next, but anyone could become Enlightened at any time and here are some tools that worked for Buddha."
Hmmm, hard choise, a religion where I'm fucked and can't do shit about it or one where everyone will achieve perfection someday and my best is good enough for now.
Personally, I prefer . . .
