Want my Buddhist skilz
Jul. 1st, 2011 12:38 pmStill struggling with this revision. Will be here long after everyone else is gone. Must call on universal forces to get me through this one. It's crazy that of all the things I'm scrambling with this week, it's the simple revision and resubmission that's giving me the most trouble.
And why?
Because it requires clear, clean, focused thought: thought like a brook of clear running water. It doesn't even have to be a big brook, either. Just a small, clear stream will do. This situation reminds of the line from "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance," (paraphrased):
"In order to put together the barbecue, you must first have peace of mind."
Right now, I need to do the equivalent of putting together the barbecue. But oh dear, I do *not* have peace of mind. There is good stuff, there is frustrating stuff, there is painful stuff, there is luscious stuff, and it's all in there, rattling around my brain.
But there is no peace of mind.
Where are my mad Buddhist skilz? I need to breath, to touch it all lightly, to let it go, and simply move along.
OK, I'll try Brian Eno.
If that doesn't work, maybe slow, deep breathing next. No, deep breathing now, first.
My single goal: Get home sometime tonight, revision completed.
