WARNING: True Blood spoilers. DO NOT CLICK if you have not seen Episode 1, Season 4.
I thought this episode was convincing and well written...up to the end.
Loved Tara as a powerful bisexual wrestler. Wow! She rocked.
How did non-Pagans react to Sookie's showdown with Mab? I was so impressed that I couldn't contain it. Besting Mab, even for a moment, is really impressive. How are the writers going to explain this? I'm curious.
For me, though, it all fell apart when Eric showed up in Sookie's room. Eric is really, really smart, and earlier, he said exactly the right thing to gain Sookie's confidence upon her return. I *cannot* believe that a man this smart would blow his (considerable) advantage by attempting to strongarm her into accepting him from sheer bravado.
There isn't a single human alive who couldn't predict her response to this dumb move.

If the writers had written Eric as cleverly at the end as they did at the beginning, he would have been sympathetic, kind, handed her the lease to her own house and then simply offered her his protection when the other vampires started showing up. That would have been both the reasonable and clever thing to do, and she would probably have embraced what he had to offer.
I think the writers are trying to set Eric and Bill up on a level playing field to keep us all guessing, so they knocked Eric back a bit and elevated Bill up a bit. Still shaking my head at this craziness, though. Why aren't I a fiction writer? OK, I'm really not a fiction writer, but still...
Drat. Back to work.

Date: 2011-07-01 10:38 pm (UTC)As near as I could tell, perhaps they expect to salvage Eric from his own pushiness by that conundrum you describe. Because, of course, if he is vulnerable and sweet, all the harm he's done by being pushy will be soon forgotten, and she will want to protect him.
That's the only solution I can think of.

Date: 2011-07-02 05:58 pm (UTC)personally i think bill is going to become a bad guy for real and sookie will be forced to turn to eric. read that review... it says a lot about how sookie is going to need vamp protection being the tasty little morsel that she is.

T: "Well. That's not good."
Me: "What was he THINKING?!"
T: "She's NOT going to be happy with this. That's a really dumb-ass, sexist thing to do."
Me: "Yeah. It'd put me off for life,"
T: "It's pretty low."
Me: "Cue much angst."
T: "I love this series."
