May your day be happy and full of everything you love. May you enjoy yourself waaaaaaaay too much, and have little or no responsibility for just a little while. My wish for you: genuine play time and lots of happy laughter...and a real work break. Hee hee...

For [livejournal.com profile] mage_imbroglio's birthday, [livejournal.com profile] vgnwtch and her wonderful husband T. sent us the first season of the British series, "Being Human". The story centers on a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost living together in Bristol. It follows them as they grapple with the meaning of their own existence and slowly forge a strong friendship on which each of them must depend.

It's funny, gripping and dramatic. I like it because it takes the position that there is no escape, and dying is no excuse: it's still just one *!@* opportunity for growth after another.

Oh, and you can grow in wisdom and become empowered even after you are dead. Plus, there's a saucy, smart and resilient health care worker (a nurse) who shows up later in the series, and the werewolf and the vampire work as orderlies in a hospital. It brings together many of my interests very nicely.

There is a Wikipedia entry for the series, but I can't seem to link to it. You can probably find it if you want to know more.

Here's a link to one of the short "prequels" to the series, the one introducing Mitchell, the vampire:

The scene between the hospital chaplain, the terrified werewolf and the wounded vampire in the hospital is brilliant, priceless and wonderful.

I would post an excerpt of the dialogue here, but that would spoil the delight it for everyone else.

If haven't seen this series and you like sci-fi and fantasy, find it and watch it.
