I'll be staying at the conference hotel for a couple of nights and attending the conference.

If I remember correctly, the AAR will want you to pay for a one day registration. Some conferences send presenters one or two free passes for just the sessions the presenters are giving, so they can invite a couple of close friends or rellies.
