Summary of chakra functioning, front and rear chakras 4-7

All taken from Brennan 1987, "Hands of Light," Chapter 9

The heart chakra (fourth up from the bottom on the front):

The center through which we love; through it flows the energy of connectedness with all life. The more open it becomes, the greater our capacity to love an ever widening circle of life. Through this center, we connect cords to the heart centers of those with whom we have a love relationship (children, parents, lovers, mates). The most important chakra used in the healing process.

The chakra midway between the shoulder blades (fourth up from the bottom on the back):

Associated with ego will, or outer will. The center from which we act in the physical world. If clockwise, indicates a positive attitude about accomplishing things in life and seeing other people as supports for those accomplihments. If counterclockwise, the opposite is true. Can also be overactive while the heart chakra is small or closed, indicating a person who functions from will rather than love, or power over rather than power from within.

The throat chakra (fifth up from the bottom on the front):

Associated with taking responsibility for one's personal needs. Functions properly when one ceases to blame others for one's lacks in life and goes out to create what he or she needs and desires. If counterclockwise, the person does not take in what is given to him or her. The more open this chakra is, the more nourishment a person can tolerate and receive.

The fifth rear chakra (fifth up from the bottom on the back):

Somtimes known as the professional center. Associated with a person's sense of self within society, his profession and his peers. If a person is not comfortable with this area of his life, then the discomfort may well be covered by pride to compensate for lack of self esteem. Usually open if one is successful and well-suited in one's work and satisfied with that work as one's task in life. If the person has chosen a profession that is both challenging and fulfilling and is giving his best to his work, this center will be in full bloom. Closed, this center can indicate fear of failure that blocks the chance to move out and create what one so dearly wants. This also holds true for one's personal life and social life in general. Taking the chance of going for the profession you long for, moving toward the contacts you long for and revealing your feelings about it are ways of opening this chakra.

The forehead center (sixth up from the bottom on the front):

Associated with the capacity to visualize and understand mental concepts, including one's concept of reality and the universe or how one sees the world and how he thinks the world is likely to respond to him. if counterclockwise, one has confused mental concepts, or images about reality that are not true and usually negative. The person holding them projects them onto the world and creates his world by them. If strongly counterclockwise, indicates a person with the ability to generate strong ideas that are negative. If this is combined with a strongly functioning executive center, located on the back of the head, this can create havoc in a person's life.

The back of the head, the mental executive center (sixth up from bottom on the back):

Associated with implementing the creative ideas formulated through the center in the forehead. When open, one's ideas are followed with the appropriate action to cause them to materialize in the physical world. If closed, the person has a hard time bringing his ideas into fruition. It is especially frustrating to have the front forehead center open and the rear one closed. One has many creative ideas, but they never seem to work out. There is usually an accompanying excuse which blames the problem on the outer world. Usually, this person needs training on how to carry out his ideas step-by-step in the world.

The crown center (top of the head):

Related to the person's connection to his spirituality and the integration of his whole being, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. If closed the person probably does not have an experiential connection his spirituality at that time If open, the person probably often experiences his spirituality in a very personal form unique to that individual.

Sabrina's comments

Don't panic if the diagnostic showed that some of your centers are closed or not operating in an open, healthy way. There is a difference between chakras that you chronically close and those that open and close fluidly in response to your life experiences. if you do the pendulum diagnostic every few months, you will learn which chakras you habitually keep closed (and indicate a need for ongoing, deeper work) and those that may be closed temporarily due to life traumas (emotional pain, a death in the family, divorce, financial stress, etc.). The latter (temporary closings) require some work, but the former (chronic patterns of closure or semi-permanent chakra blocks) are where you need to concentrate the bulk of your efforts in order to grow as a human being, teacher and Priest/ess.

Checking in periodically can show you how you (or your students) are progressing over time.

Thank you for posting this information. Your workshop at the IG was very useful.

Thanks! Next I will post Brennan's descriptions of the chakra movement patterns and what they indicate. I guess I'll have to describe each pattern---I don't know how to draw them on lj.

I can also send excerpts to each group/household. I know Eva already has a copy of the whole book, and I want to send a copy of the booklet excerpt I made of this chapter to your/Keith's household, Gerri's household, and the households of each person who was there. That way I use my extra copies. Right now they are just lying around taking up space in my small apartment--and you guys don't need to spend $ to buy the book.

Can you or Beth send me some addresses? I remember that several households were represented at that workshop.

I should have passed around a sign up sheet with contact information. I always pass around a sign up sheet for follow-up at workshops (shaking my head)---where were my cognitive and crown functions that weekend?

(Smiling)--0If you see them anywhere, please send them back home to me. I miss them, and can't wait to get them back.

I feel like the woman in that classic episode of original series Star Trek---"Brain, brain, what is brain?!?"

Man, I need to make checklist for the Beltaine workshops I do for Geo next month. Hmmm, I need to decide which workshops to do for Geo and let him know...maybe some relatively safe aromatics sessions, after all. I don't think I'll have a Summoner there to work with.

I have the book...

If it would be easier for me to make the copies and save you the time/cost of sending them.

Not that I/we wouldn't love contact from you!

I will officially ask you to do that, friend. Chapter 9 and the chart in, I think, Chapter 10 are the most important sections of the book for the workshop. And thanks for your help over the weekend. You and jen ended up contributing to my efficient functioning in really important ways.

I will copy Chapter 9 and the relavent parts of Chapter 10, and distribute them to those who need them. This is also a technique that I think would be useful to particularly some in our coven, as they all seem to be healers. (We are just blessed that way!)...I, with your permission, would like to give them this tool to work with.

As for this weekends assistance...isn't that what we are here to do, as true ministers? I don't see my duty as only to the gods, but as a servant to those around me as well. It is something that I have never been able to seperate myself from, nor have I really ever wanted to. It was really an honor.
