sabrinamari: (Things can go pear-shaped...)

So, in many ways this has been a lovely weekend: Friday and Saturday I spent time with several people I love and adore and a great time was had by all.

However, tomorrow is super-extra important, and my over-arching goal for the weekend was to have fun, but keep it calm, healthy and on track for optimal performance tomorrow.

This hasn't happened. Although much wonderful prep was done, the final key preparations for today have gone badly. Late start, imperfect communication, lack of available materials and the fact that it is Easter and everything is closed have made things really difficult. At one point, Michael and I started laughing at disbelief at how many things in succession have gone wrong today. It's pretty much the opposite of everything we attempted, as a group, to do in anticipation of tomorrow.

Two things have gone right:

1. Communication under *extreme* stress has remained respectful and non-blaming of any party. No shaming is happening. All the really horrible things I've wanted to say have remained unsaid, and instead, reason, compassion and critical thinking have triumphed. We are genuinely tackling the clusterfuck of problems together.

2. We were able to buy sandwiches.

That's it. That's everything that we've been able to accomplish today.

Probably, success #1 is worth it.

Now we'll each spend the next few hours feverishly problem-solving in separate cars and separate buildings to make things work out as cleanly as possible. I hope we can end the evening by snuggling in front of a funny movie and going to bed early.

May the Force be with us.
