Michael, rolling his eyes, grabs me and gives me a good three smacks: "Every time you talk about being fat or old I am going to spank you, because I like it and you don't!"

In my experience, I find it easier to allow myself to feel fat/flabby/out of shape/heavier (I don't usually describe myself with the word "chunky" but the feeling is the same) rather than resist those feelings with logic or evidence to the contrary. Sometimes this attitude develops b/c I've let my workouts slide and I'm recognizing the natural consenquences but usually these feelings are not actually rooted in the reality of my body. If I let the feeling flow out without resistence, I usually arrive at the "what should I do about this" stage faster. Perhaps I will make better, healthier food choices, or go to the gym, or something else. But I find that if I resist the feeling, the longer it sticks around to convince me how correct it is.

So go ahead, notice that you feel chunky. But as the saying goes, don't believe everything you think. :-)
