Because Clover's Yule was cancelled, I joined Michael and Trent on the crazy Den 4 solstice camping trip at a Girl Scout camp near Sparta. It turned out to be a lovely experience. We arrived just as the snow began to fall and had a good time with 5 kids, 7 adults and a roaring fire inside a very fancy, very large cabin with a great kitchen. It was warm and snug. The fire blazed all evening and much of the night.

We taught the boys to cook and clean in preparation for later Boy Scout campouts in which they will be on their own. Trent did a great job of cooking flapjacks, washing dishes and then drying them and putting them away.

The Den leader, A., is supremely competent, like so many of my women friends. I learned a great deal from her about how to teach kiddos the art of doing practical chores---not as easy as it sounds.

When it was time to come home this morning, we made it back through a New Jersey winter wonderland with ease, and then spent an hour or so digging out our cars and the proximal end of our parking lot. Our neighbors seem a bit confused that we dug them out, but that's OK.

Stéphanie had a great time recovering from her cold in peace while we were gone, and we were happy to see each other when we came home. After playing in the snow for awhile, Trent voluntarily jumped on his mission project for school and it is now done. I have a little more holiday work to do. Soon, I'll see quite a few friends I haven't seen in a long while and I'm very happy about that.

All is well in my world. Thank you, universe. I am grateful for all the good people and things in my life, and the fantastic opportunities that so frequently come my way.

Happy holidays, everyone!
