Thank you to everyone posting encouraging, calming posts and/or posts that reaffirm a call to action in their LJs. I need them today, and that means that probably lots of other people do too.

I am fighting sorrow---wearing the all black of mourning and eating Krispy Kreme doughnuts in quantity.

But, having read your posts, I am going to take a deep breath and just let these feelings pass. They are only feelings, and these thoughts are only thoughts. Only actions have teeth, and we can control our own. Many of you have suggested really good actions already.

get out of my brain

This morning I decided to shed my "normal PA girl" drag and dres as my true self. I'm wearing a long, flowing black dress, black cowboy boots, a black, velvet jacket and a blue and green necklace with a big ankh dangling from it. The crowning accessory is my "Hillary 2000" button upon which I have taped the numbers "08."

I will fight their agenda with my last breath. I will spend the next 4 years working to rub George W's nose in the fact that 50% is not a mandate.

Would you like to go to DC for inauguration day?

Seriously

There were demonstrations at his first inauguration. I'm sure there will be demonstrations this time. I'm going to find out who is organizing them, and plan to be there.

I'd love it if you would come with me. My house is a 2 hour drive from the capital. You could meet me somewhere or spend the night here.

That would be cool. When is inauguration day?

January 20th, which this year falls on a Thursday. It's a really intriguing suggestion.

Just 'cause I'm evil

Just because I'm evil and didn't like either option, I would like to pointedly ask this question:

If Kerry had been elected with the same vote counts, would you have considered that to be "a mandate" for him?

INVEST Your Vote

If Kerry had won, he would have had the unenviable task of presiding over a divided house. He would have had to deal with a congress controlled by the opposition. He would have been stuck cleaning up the horrible mess in Iraq. Winning this election would have shaved a decade off of John Kerry's life. But....

I would not have to worry that the next incarnation of the Supreme Court would overturn Roe v. Wade. I would feel much more secure about the separation of church and state in this country. I would worry less about living in a shelter and eating cat food in my old age with no Social Security. And, perhaps, my country might have pulled it's head out of it's ass and signed the fricking Kyoto Accord.

It's all about me you see. I care about whether the government institutes policies that are good for me and mine.

If Kerry had won, I would still be planning to show up in DC on January 20. The only difference would be that my sign would say, "Stop the war" instead of, "Keep your personal savior out of my public government."

I wore red. I was hoping it would cheer me up. Didn't work though. :(
