I just noticed that Brian the Money Guy's latest podcast includes a rundown of the Black Visa card (he begins his analysis in the middle of the show). He echoes many of the observations made in the last post and its associated comments.

Brian also points out that while this card is trying to make like it's the newest Amex Centurion card, it's actually much more analogous to the Amex Platinum (with a similar $450 annual fee) in terms of benefits, rewards and concierge services.

He also points out there are a number of cards on the market that offer almost exactly the same package...but are absolutely free.

I think the Visa Black card is just amazingly stupid.

I guess there comes a point when you have SO MUCH mazuma that you just HAVE TO light your 'gars with Benjies.

Really, it stikes me like the kind of modern American potlatch analog that our neuveax-riche have to engage in to phsychically re-enforce their own image of class status in a society that doesn't have formal structures to do that for them.

Since we don't have peerage or royalty, it must be created...

The card may be bogus, but your icon is smokin'. Trinity is just the living end. *le sigh* I totally want to be her when I grow up.

Me too! She is one of my fave fictional role models (along with Ripley in "Aliens" and Alice in the "Resident Evil" movies). Oh, and Po from 'Kung Fu Panda" is right up there, too.

If I could be anyone, I would be a combination of those four characters, with a heavy dose of Pema Chodron and a light dash of Neville Longbottom.

What about you?

Ooo! Neville Longbottom. He did turn out to be just very cool didn't he?

I have been trying to think about who I would be... maybe some combination of Noam Chomsky, Trinity, Vienne from Chocolat, and Elizabeth Swan from the Pirates movies. I wouldn't mind a dash of the quiet gravity of David Caradeen's caracter from Kung Fu either.

Oooo, what a wonderful combination! I too would add some Kawi Chang Cain. :)

I thought about it some more later and I think I would also like to have some Susan Boyle. To be that confident and self-posessed without the movie star looks to fall back on is pretty amazing, but I was just generally impressed by her.

And she is non-fictional!
