Working wth Pema/Beltaine Pre-conference Intensives

The pressure cooker will have to wait, as will several other expenditures I was considering.

It looks like I will be able to work with Pema Chodron in person at long last.

This year I needed to choose something I could attend without my beloved M., who is quickly digging his way out of debt and minimizing all discretionary spending in pursuit of this goal.

Although I will miss all my friends at Beltaine, going without M. this year would have made us both sad. But he will be completely out of debt (aside from his mortgage) by June. To celebrate, the whole family is attending FSG in June for the entire week. Hurray!

But I will miss everyone at Beltaine (which remains a *fabulously* affordable, workshop-rich event. Go catpaw67!). Have extra fun for me, OK? I hear it has a wonderful line up of workshops and teachers this year, including several new pre-conference intensives:

I know, I'm very excited. I do feel guilty about spending this kind of money---but if I can't make Beltaine, this is the only other workshop that I really want to explore.

(It is truly amazing how cost effective and richly scheduled our FSG gatherings have been. In comparison to almost any other similar venue---like Omega, where Pema is presenting---their cost is remarkably lower while their quality is still very high. Our community has a huge advantage here!)

It is also true that Pema is getting older. She won't be here forever. If I am going to learn from her in person, I need to do it soon, before I lose the chance to really get to know her.

Seriously - you should.

We could go someplace in Florida and stay in a Motel 6. Heck we could stay in Lauderdale by the Sea, rent tanks for $10 and dive the 18 foot deep reef at the offshore fishing pier right from the beach.

There are some awfully cheap fares to Florida.

We could arrange something in advance with a local dive operator. They could do a refresher/orientation to the local dive environment. Scuba instructors are happy to do that for a fee.

Then, if you're comfortable, I could take you on a bunch of shallow dives until you are a mermaid under water.

The whole reason I did the scuba training was so that I could go diving with you.

I really struggled with the class itself, but the dives.

There is a place in Lauderdale by the Sea that rents rooms for 50 - 80$. We could get an efficiency with a kitchen and save $ by fixing our own food if you want to keep costs down.

I am using a time share week to give my sister a vacation in West Palm Beach. That week starts on Sunday, June 8. I'm going to stay there with her most of the week but leave in time to spend the weekend at FSG. I'm thinking about going down to Florida a few days before she arrives, maybe Thursday or Friday of that week. Wanna come for a weekend right before FSG?
