Book: 10 pages remain. Going is slow; synthesizing a book's worth of theory and field data is challenging. Yesterday was our big meeting day: we have formal meetings on Tuesdays from 9 am to 1 pm, then folks often use the afternoon for smaller, informal check-ins because everyone who works in the division is there that day. The meetings weren't bad; actually, they were good. I enjoyed them, but felt really guilty because while I met with everyone because the book was waiting, waiting.

Divorce: Everything is filed and properly prepared. It only took 2 trips to the courthouse: 1 on a Friday and 1 the following Monday. Michael is supposed to get assigned a court date for the decree in about 3 weeks. The court is supposed to mail it to the house, but he can call the courthouse 3 weeks from last Monday if we don't have a letter by then.

Career: I'm now working with a new mentor at my job. I love this: we have a good connection and I'm excited about this year's research goals. We agree about what they are, and I am so jazzed to be doing what we will be doing! I'm still thinking that new career possibilities will be created/unfold in other areas this year, but it's wonderful to feel happy about the prospect of going to work again.

Craft: Marsha H. is coming up with Ariana for the healing weekend. I'm excited to see her and hope that I can relax into the energy work and massage we do because the book is done. We'll see. :)

Working Out/Health: I'm on track with both cardio and weights. A tiny 1-lb weight loss is being accompanied by the reshaping of my physique. Shoulders show it most clearly: I'm still early into the shape-shifting process. I've adopted the long slow burn technique on most cardio days: I'm doing 45 minutes to an hour on the elliptical at a heart rate of around 136. The other days I row for 30 minutes. I'm doing cardio 5 days out of 7 and weights 4 days out of 7 and packing 3 body parts into each weight training session. Whew! The challenge of working up to this is interesting. I pulled a mid-back muscle 2 days ago and must drop back significantly in terms of weight for back and shoulders exercise once some healing has occurred. OK, but I won't stop training altogether: just rest particular body parts then slowly re-introduce super light weights when appropriate. Adapt, adapt, adapt!

Enlighten me, oh workout Queen...

You say many good things here, and I say "Woot!" to all of them.

But I also have a question -

How do you keep your heartrate so low on the elliptical for that long? Increased resistance?

My HR is usually at the high end of my cardio target and while I am pleased with the increased CP capacity, I also want to do lower HR workouts to target weight loss.

Will I see you this weekend/Monday?

Sillyness! (laughing...)

I keep my heart rate lower by just taking it easy and going slower. I don;t do that every time; this morning I went for 45 minutes at between 142-150. But the theory goes that if you keep that up without adding in less effortful days, you are more likely to injure yourself. So I try to go a little slower some days.

If I listen to music, my heart rate will go up as I move faster. If I listen to podcasts, it stays lower.

I can't meet on Monday, love. It looks like Ariana is staying through Monday morning after all and I have 2 sets of practice field notes to complete on Tuesday. I will miss you, though!
