Michael and I made four attempts to record our first podcast the other night. The best segment was a snippet where I lost it and screamed,"I can't do it! I can't do it!"over and over. We deleted the rest, but he kept that bit because it was funny.

And it was the most authentic moment of the whole damn night.

Why is this so daunting?

But the good part is that we practiced doing several 'faux podcasts' and discovered that we needed to toss the original approach entirely. It was stuffy, pompous and dumb sounding. The best results unfolded when I did what I normally do as an anthropologist: ask questions and just listen. So that's we'll we'll try next time, maybe today/tonight.

Please cut some slack on our first few podcasts. They'll get better as we go along.

Can you make the "I can't do it" clip into a ring tone?

I'll ask Michael---it sounds very silly, but I'll ask him. :)

That was actually a joke Sweetie although if it was made I would definitely use it.

:)

I'm sorry. I'm so literal. (hangs head)

I record and edit public information announcements for the local community radio station. These announcements are between 1.30 and 2 minutes long. They take lots of retakes, and lots of editing. It takes time. Your podcasts are aiming at being 10 times longer than these. Be kind to yourselves.

Oh, and the best thing is to just take deep breaths and leave long pauses. Any fluffs can be edited out, and pauses can be edited to sound natural. When you fluff, take a breath, compose yourself, and just say the sentence or the difficult word again. It'll come out later.

What a great suggestion!

And Michael learned how to edit podcasts in GarageBand a few days ago, so this should be very doable.

Are you working wioth a script? It helps to have everything---EVERYTHING---on paper, then all you have to do is familiarize yourself with it, and then read it.

This is how I get my people through the videotapings I have to do for the IRS. Works like a charm.

Yes, but the script was too pompous and stiff. I need to re-do it with a much less "stiff" feeling.
