Diss Update

I'm still happy over Ana's encouraging words. So much so that it's basically OK that my defense in now scheduled for a time when many of the people I love just can't be there. My brother will be taking his comps and can't come, and Ken will be in Las Vegas on a business trip. Some friends will be working, since it's scheduled for 10 a.m. Essentially, it will just be me, my committee, and any of my friends who can show up for the event (Karen? Sarah? Maybe Cat?).

I will take the day off, though. Maybe I can relax in the evening.

Also, I am thinking of hosting a small gathering---not the big party---on Saturday night, since the defense is on a Friday. Or I guess I could do it Friday night. Sunday is Samhain, and both that week and the weekend are part of a BIG ritual period around here, since Samhain is both a Blue Star hinge sabbat and a big cultural time of celebration for multiple local groups and friends.

So I'll have to ask around and plan very carefully, because almost everyone I love around here will be close to ritualed/gathered/celebrated out, or will be committed to some rite or another on both Friday and Saturday nights.

I'm not sure exactly what I should do, but just staying home and feeling sorry for myself is totally bogus and pathetic, and I can do much better than that! :)

Scheming will be necessary. Anybody local with ideas should toss some my way. Anybody distant with ideas is invited to add their 2 cents as well.

It's fuzzy1313's 30th birthday-cum-housewarming party that weekend, plus Samhain. But I bet we can come up with something really cool.
