Hello from Dillon, Colorado
Apr. 4th, 2007 04:11 pmI have an opportunity to post, so I will.
Dillon, CO:
We're in Dillon, CO, at a resort called Swan Mountain. It is lovely and posh, thanks to Michael's family timeshare. I've rarely spent time in comfy places on vacations past; resorts are new to me. I am amazed at having a full kitchen and washer and dryer in our unit; the whole idea of spending our evenings playing in the pool and hot tub with other families is also new.
Activities
It's gorgeous here. Just walking outside is beautiful, and the view from the patio is sublime. Michael is snowboarding and Trent is skiing, and I'm writing and working in the ski lodge or unit while they play on the slopes. Today we're at Arapaho Basin and I'm snuggled in at the lodge with the backpacks. I still can't believe how skilled a 6-year-old can be at a sport that combines speed and balance. Trent is doing the green trails with his Dad and he periodically rests here with me while Michael does the blue trails and the occasional black diamonds. I type. :)
Yesterday I decided that we should go snowmobiling, and Trent thought that was a fabulous idea. Michael was pleased and excited that we found a new fun thing to do, so after we all worked out in the little gym and caught a burrito we went on a two-hour group snow mobile tour. I got to drive my own sled while Michael tucked Trent in front of the seat of his, and off we went. IT WAS A BLAST! I loved zooming the sled across the snow real fast with my honeys on the sled in front of me. We went all the way up to the Continental Divide and played on its edges, plowing through the white powder.
One of the drivers in our group turned over his sled (note that I did not do so; in fact, I was a good, fast driver) and there was a little emergency. We had to stop for awhile pretty high up and the guide got frantic when he could not repair the overturned sled; finally I offered him my sled and climbed on behind Michael and Trent. The three of us scooted our way down the mountain and Michael still managed to go pretty fast, jumping over bumps and taking us up and down the sides of snowy slopes.
If you get the chance, go snowmobiling. It's wonderful!
Other musings:
This trip is so different from my last two visits to Colorado. I came in 2003 and 2004 for marriage counseling with David Schnarch and Ruth Moorehouse. As we drove from the Denver airport to Dillon, we passed many of the landmarks I passed on those trips. We even stopped at one of the same gas stations/convenience food stores in which Ken and I stopped during previous trips.
I've remembered alot about those visits and what happened then.
Dear lord, my marriage sucked, and my life is so remarkably better now. I cannot believe I put up with and even clung to the disaster that was that relationship. Never having known a really good relationship---not one of any length, anyway---I did not have any idea of what I was missing, or understand the crap I was putting up with on a daily basis. I thought that what I had was worth saving. Thank the gods for everything that led to my divorce. Since then, I have discovered what I was missing. It's wonderful.
Yay, Michael and Trent! Yay, new life! I am filled with gratitute for the gifts that I have received since I left my marriage.
Happy sigh.

Date: 2007-04-04 09:38 pm (UTC)And aren't we lucky people, to have known the depths so that we can appreciate the heights---and let others know that nothing is forever. No darkness, no pit, no badness ever lasts forever, because the amazing things in life are just around the corner, closer than we could ever think.
Yay, Sabri!
Hugs and more hugs!
