Moving La Vida Loca
Sep. 29th, 2006 08:57 pmMoving began in earnest this week. Wednesday the big loads started rolling into the minivan and trucking all over the place: Scotch Plains, the storage unit, my office building and various clothing donation boxes. My life is being resorted radically. Cool. Scary.
Yesterday we cleared out Shannon's storage unit and closed it. Evenings have been spent loading/hauling/unloading and unpacking. Yesterday was majorly trying, but everyone was patient and kind and we all survived in good spirits. My stuff is miraculously settling in among Michael's things. Karen and Tom's old futon is being set up downstairs in Scotch Plains tonight. May their happiness leak into my new house.
The apartment looks like it is being squatted by worn and battered boxes tagging along in the wake of a major furniture diaspora. This sad urban analogy is bolstered by the fact that most of the boxes seem to have once held booze.
Saturday day Shannon and Dave will load and unload repeatedly at her new place, and Sunday day Shannon, Dave, Michael, Trent and I are planning to haul two vans into the moving process.
My big pieces will stay at the apartment, along with my cats, throughout the next several weeks.
I really need a new home for my cats. That's the priority for me after this weekend.

You dark horse.

May the logistics turn out to be simple, the movers all turn out to be having A Good Day, and may every box be lighter than you thought.

Much luck - someone out there wants two fairly elderly cats and will love them madly; may you find each other rapidly.

I really hope I have a moving van for Saturday.
I am so glad I have friends who like the idea of saving each others' ass as needed.
