I'm about to warm up some rice and beans for dinner. Ken is home, I'm rested and happy (yes, very little work on the diss happened this weekend, so I'll be working weekday evenings---but I feel GREAT! I got sleep and exercise and I ate well and the household chores are all done).

I went out and bought an oval 6-quart slow cooker with 2 optional nonstick inserts so you can make 2 dishes at once. Oh yes. Hot healthy food shall be mine when I walk in the door in the evenings. Tomorrow: Fish chowder with monkfish, shrimp and lobster. yum! I also bought a pudding mold, a rack and crock pot carrying cases for both the big one and the little one. No longer shall I bring deli-bought food to circle!

Ran this morning, mixing in walking as necessary. Stretching before and after means no hamstring pain! Oh yes, life is good.

You've inspired me!

Why don't I ever use my slow cooker any more?

I should use it to make pot roast and things for circle. Yum.

Except I work at home, so that could be a little bit painful to smell it all day long. Hmm.

I love my slow-cooker. It's a good thing. I go through periods where we eat slow-cooker fare once a week. Yum. I have a recipe for beef stew I'm particularly fond of. Still trying to perfect a recipe for scalloped potatoes with ham. I would love Sabrina's seafood recipes!

Sounds like it was a good weekend all around...

Please let us know how the chowder turns out...and maybe share the recipe?

Crockpots are definitely a VERY good thing. I have a favorite hoisin pork roast with scotch that I make in the crockpot. Tender, lovely and melt in your mouth delicious.

Oooh - slow cooker recipes.
I need to find good low-carb ones.
Yummy. And now that it's getting cooler, it's a good time for them.

Sheesch!

My stomach was growling while reading the comments to your LJ post. How far do you usually run?

Can you set up in a separate part of the house?

I can see how one would be tempted by the good smells as day.

If tonight's chowder is good, I'll post it. If not, I tinker with it and try again.

Where have slow cookers been all my life?

Yes, it was a good weekend, even though I did not work much on my revisions (so now I have to work on them weeknights, bit by bit).

If the chowder recipe turns out well, I'll post it. If not, I'll tinker with it until it's good and then post it.

I don't usually track the distance. I track the time that I ran and the calories that I burned according to my heart rate moniter.

I wear it all the time when I exercise now, even when I'm doing weights. By tracking my HR and calorie expenditure, I've discovered that i burn a *tremendous* number of calories working with weights. It also keeps my HR up, since I work hard and do abs sets during my rests between sets.

A good discovery. It keeps me motivated.

How far do you go on the cross training machine? How do you track your efforts?

You need to understand that my apartment is only 4 rooms, so this "separate part of the house" thing is a foreign concept. :-)

sweetie, I just ordered a book of low-carb recipes specifically for the slow cooker. :o) When it gets here, I'll let you know if it's worth purchasing, but from the comments on Amazon.com, it seems like it will be.

I also did some web surfing to find some low carb crock pot recipes. I'll check my files and links and try to send you some very soon.
