So, this is my birthday weekend. I am thinking of facilitating a (very) low key celebration. I've noticed that many of my friends will be at the GKE in Piscataway this Fri/Sat/Sun, and while I'm not attending, it does almost beg me to take advantage of it.

I'm thinking of showing up in the lobby of the main hotel on Sunday around noon and meeting whoever wants to come have lunch. It would be short, sweet and low effort. Lots of silliness and laughter, no stress. I don't really need presents, but if you want, you can bring memories of fun that you and I have had together to share. You are welcome to be ridiculous and poke fun.

Thus far, [livejournal.com profile] catpaw67, [livejournal.com profile] castalusoria and [livejournal.com profile] justusgirlz have said they're game. Anyone else want to join in? You are welcome to bring friends.

I never thanked my first husband for one of the most important lessons he taught me, and it seems important to do it, even though I am not speaking directly to him.

Thank you for teaching me never to try and convince someone that they could/should love me.

That lesson was worth its weight in gold.

Understanding that love can only be inspired, and never demanded, has made my life better.

Thank you.

I didn't yet say thanks to everyone who visited last weekend and added their uniqueness to the mix that was our odd and unexpected Samhain.

Not only did I enjoy your company, but I'm really impressed at the way you all pulled together and picked up after yourselves, so the next wave of visitors could enjoy some nice company in neat surroundings and, (thank you [livejournal.com profile] sligoe and Dave), some lovely food.

It's easy to host when everyone's so willing to help! At my count, we had about nine guests over on Friday, four on Saturday, thirteen on Sunday and one into Monday morning, with some folks staying over on each night. And yet, the house stayed clean, everyone was well fed, and many, many things were accomplished.

Thank you, friends. This experience makes me think we could indeed survive a zombie apocalypse gracefully.

Today I remembered a post that once struck me as very important. It was written by someone I don't know at all; I found it only through an acquaintance's journal.

I probably remembered it today because I've been thinking about my ex, but it's useful for people grappling with all kinds of dysfunctional systems.

It's called "How to Keep Someone with You Forever".
