WONDERFUL! I loved every bit of it, and thought the central character's family was actually very cool.
Bliss was, of course, really wonderful, as were all her friends. The roller derby teams were tremendous fun to watch. But her family was outstanding, both in their foibles and in their resilience and character.
I particularly loved her dad's parenting style. He reminded me of my dad, who is the coolest, most amazing man ever (and I am surrounded by wonderful, wise, tender men: my brother, my husband, my mentor, my many male friends and dear ones...so many great men in my life!).
Whip It was a good movie choice for reminding me how much power we each have for creating delight in ourselves and in the world.
Another thing: I save my greatest admiration for people who fight their way through difficulties and build their success on the ability to get up one more time than they fall. Bliss certainly fits this bill--- I loved watching her get up and get up over again.
I'll add her to my list of fictional role models, and think of her when I need to push myself forward after setbacks.
