Recovering (Control)
Jan. 9th, 2010 10:33 pmThis was the hardest and longest week I've spent at work (and in the rest of my life) in ages.
I'm recovering this weekend---so happy to be doing whatever I need/want, and finding the balance I crave.
I keep dreaming that I'm trying to take control of my life. These dreams are about driving, which I generally dislike. For years I've had recurring dreams in which I find myself trying to drive a car, only to suddenly realize that I'm in the back seat or trapped on the passenger side.
Usually I barely avoid a wreck or have an accident because I can't reach the pedals and/or the wheel.
I know this is about giving away control of important parts of my life to others, and meeting their needs instead of/prior to meeting mine.
The latest version of the dream: I realize that I'm driving from the passenger's seat and I pull over, somehow. I step out and get back into the driver's seat and set off. Then suddenly, I find myself in the passenger's side of the car again. So I pull over, get out of the car and get back into the driver's seat once more...
I think this is progress.
