My trip was beautiful. We went to Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum. Swimming in the clear blue ocean beneath the cliffs of Tulum took my breath away. Thinking of the Maya who docked at this beach countless generations ago made it even more poignant.
Thank you, elphaba, for the advice about wearing my swimsuit to Tulum. It provided a once-in-a lifetime opportunity.
My love and I also did a two-tank dive along the coral reef that hugs Quintana Roo's coastline. I was scared because it's been so long, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity.
Moments to remember:
climbing the temple in Coba (and ducking between the wires of the fence that guards its high back..overlooking the jungle from cool hidden shadows)
embracing my love in the clear blue waters of Tulum
gazing in wonder at Chichen Itza's sacred cenote
laughing everytime M. mentioned "Chicken Itza"
sadly watching the descendents of the ancient Maya sweeping the floor of an opulent resort below a giant photo of a would-be warrior
floating in pool at night with M beneath a trine moon, overlooking a dark lake
shopping for refritos, arroz and pan de muertos at Playa del Carmen's Wal-mart. Yes, it's a global economy.
