M. and I got back from the woods yesterday evening.

It was a wonderful experience: I wasn't sure how much I could do or how it would go, but I loved it.

Instead of hiking halfway down the Central District of Shenandoah's Appalachian Trail, we hiked the whole thing. It was 35 miles up and down mountains, through gaps and across abandoned homesteads and forest-covered ruins. My pack was around 37 pounds, and we hiked for around 6 hours on most days.

I added alot of hamstring muscle and had no problem meeting the challenge.

Unexpectedly, nights and mornings were quite cold: around 20 degrees at their nadir. We woke to snow on Day 2. That day was spent hiking through snow flurries in absolute silence, and the mountains were especially gorgeous. I never expected to do backcountry winter camping, but it was a memorable experience.

I'll probably post photos later. :)
