Sometimes I find myself trying to talk to my friends about their investment styles.
For people who aren't that interested in investing, or who simply don't have much experience with it, the whole concept seems strange.
"So, what's your style?" I ask them. "What do you mean?" they want to know.
I try to explain that everyone has their own investment style, just like they have a favorite musical style, a favorite religious path or a particular genre of movies that they love. Usually, their style is a blend of several different possibilities accompanied by one or more unique twists.
Investment is just the same.
You can be an adventurous, devil-may-care libertine, favoring short short black skirts and long tall black leather boots, or you can be an elegant, streamlined investor in complementary shades of black and taupe. You could even be a "green" investor, taking joy in socially conscious funds, cruelty-free shoes and patchouly essential oil.
You really can't know until you wade in and start learning about the options for yourself, just as you can't know whether you will prefer Indian vegetarian to Asian fusion before you try them.
Here's an article describing a few of the elements that might make up your personal investment style:
http://www.thedigeratilife.com/blog/index.php/2007/09/06/invest-in-the-stock-market-using-these-investing-styles/I'm always curious. I want to know what my friends are like under their mild mannered (or not...) exteriors. In whose modestly covered chest beats the heart of a reckless adventurer? Whom among you enjoy leather, whips and chains but trust only in index funds?
Inquiring minds want to know.
