Short post about life
Aug. 29th, 2005 07:28 amI spent a good deal of time with Michael and Trent over the last week, and spent some friendly hanging out time with Ildiko and Richard here and there in passing too. I have to say it was very good. It's easy to enjoy Michael's company and I am loving the time I spend with Trent.
Life is often very, very good. Michael is just fun to be with, and even when there is conflict, it is useful, important, and handled calmly and well. It is a marvelous thing to be a grownup relating to another grownup. I am still getting used to interacting on an intrinsically happy, adult level, and still grateful and happy on an everyday basis that this is the case. Every day confirms for me that I made the right decision when I ended my marriage nine months ago.
The payoff for making incredibly painful, hard decisions and enduring the intense pain of endings is exponentially positive. The payoff for deciding to wait long enough to lay a foundation of personal healing before entering into any romantic or sexual relationship is equally good. My conclusions: a great deal of happiness comes from willingness to endure the intense emotional pain that leads to growth, coupled with the ability to delay gratification and resist the urge to self medicate.
