OK, this is crazy, but crazy-wonderful. I discovered it yesterday. IF...
...You have struggled with weight throughout your life
...You grapple with emotional eating/comfort eating
...You have ever dreaded trying on clothes or swim suits
...You have ever been dumped/disdained by a boyfriend/lover because of your weight
AND
...You love to laugh
...You have diverse musical tastes (rock, rap, country, dance, 80s pop), and want something great and upbeat to work out to...
Check this out.
I skeptically bought this as an MP3 download. It has the unfortunate title of "Skinnysongs".
Ignore this title. It's FRICKING brilliant! OK, more brilliant if you are a woman in your 30s or 40s who is also a bit of a geek and likes super heroes.
Ignore the song titles; they aren't great. The sample excerpts are so-so; they leave out the best parts and on "The Incredible Shrinking Woman," drop critically important contexts (the subtext is X-Men, not anorexia). The whole songs are brilliant and very, very tongue-in-cheek. Especially check out, 'You Da Boss".
The first time you try to work out to this, your laughter will slow down your workout. But damn, these are funny and very motivating.

If you are an emotional eater, you'd like "You Da Boss"
Been dumped around weight issues? "Blowing You Off at 8" is brilliant.
Fantasize that you are a super hero/woman of steel while exercising (that would, um, be me...): "The Incredible Shrinking Woman"
Hate dressings rooms with a rabid terror? "I Think I'll Go to Saks"
Tried exercise and healthy eating and sabotauged yourself repeatedly? "Thin"
Love exercise or want to love it? "Use It to Lose It"
Intimidated by professional gyms? Like country music's clever use of puns? "Objects in the Mirror"
Longing for your favorite "skinny clothes"? "Skinny Jeans"
And you will laugh, laugh, laugh...while you exercise and get stronger.

Date: 2008-03-02 04:13 pm (UTC)I am laughing at the irony of trying to balance fewer splurge purchases for better financial health with cool stuff to buy for improved financial & physical health. DH says we'll wait till next month to buy the "Furminator" for Buttercup.
