I have sad news.
George was diagniosed with leukemia today through a series of blood tests. He is now in the ICU at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. The physicians who delivered the news were kind but very clear: this is a grim prognosis. George is not conscious, and is not likely to be conscious any time soon, perhaps not again. However, he is resting peacefully and he is being given medications to make sure that he is not in pain. A spinal tap will be done tomorrow to ascertain what kind of leukemia this is. A head, torso and pelvic cat scan will be done this afternoon.
Regardless of what type of leukemia it is, this means that our community must begin saying good-bye to our bunny Turtle. Those of you who would like to visit George may want to think about doing so in the next few days. Cat has visitation guidelines on her LJ. If they are not up now, they will be up in a few minutes. I know that Cat, Liam and Manual will be with George this afternoon and this evening, and I am not sure whether tonight would be a good time to visit---they may need time with him tonight.
If you would like to contact Cat, please think about giving me a call on my cell phone first (seventhreetwo threezeronine fivezerothreetwo) to give Cat and Geo's family a little time to absorb the news today. I will be here through tomorrow evening, when Larissa will join her for a day. Updates will posted on LJ.
Jen Hamilton has offered to help coordinate ICU visits to ensure that George does not have 12 visitors in the same half hour. She will be available by cell phone after 6pm today at seventhreetwo fourfivetwo oneeightonenine.
[EDIT:Telephone number correction: Jen Hamilton's cell phone is seventhreetwo-nineonezero-fivesixthreezero. Crash space is available at my home in Metuchen, NJ (walking distance to NYC train) to anyone considering coming in from out of the local area. - Jen]
Jen will also have medical updates as they come in.
Thank you for all of the love and energy and support you have sent George and Cat and their family.
