Dissertation Update
Sep. 2nd, 2004 04:25 pmI met with my advisor today. The news is not what I'd hoped. He gave me
additional changes---serious ones, of course. We found a way to restructure the last half of the dissertation to incorporate his changes together with Louisa's changes. That's good
This is the plan: I work all weekend for the next 5 weekends in a row as follows:
Sept 4&5: Revise and restructure Chapter 5
Sept 11&12: Revise and restructure Chapter 6
Sept. 18&19: Revise and restructure Chapter 7
(All of the above were formerly Chapter 5 and 6,
now recombined into new forms)
Sept. 25&26: Revise first half of conclusion
Oct. 2&3: Revise second half of conclusion
(The conclusion will be a totally new rewrite)
Weekdays I will work at my CSHP job. Weekday
evenings I will put together my post-doc application
packets.
Then, in October:
Oct. 8: My defense date is publicly announced on
the anthropology list-serv
Oct 7-10: I am out of town for the Blue Star
Family Gathering---I might leave
Wednesday night, on the 6th
Oct. 15: I place a review copy of my dissertation
with all changes in the anthropology department
Oct.16&17: REST and SLEEP
Oct 23&24: Prepare for my defense
Oct 29: Defend my dissertation
Oct. 30: BIG PARTY!!!!!! Plan to attend. : )
Oct. 31: SAMHAIN
Nov. 2: Day of the Dead
Nov.4: ELECTION DAY
Nov.5: My birthday
Nov. 6&7: Birthday celebration weekend. I
might go away with Ken that weekend.
So when will I have free time again?
Probably mid-November.
Important: I did not cry in front of Peter
when I got this news. I have not cried at all.

Date: 2004-09-02 02:50 pm (UTC)We can find a bed for you, I'm certain. And we'd LOVE to have you for the extra time. :-)
Email headed your way about workshops.
on the bright side...
Date: 2004-09-02 04:12 pm (UTC)Fortunately, this is still pretty standard stuff for this model of distribution. Every wildly differing methodologist on your committee will want to leave her/his stamp on it.
I had thought your party would be later in the year--I don't think I'll be able to make it down around Samhain or even before the election--that's when I take my comp and I've volunteered as an Election Monitor in Detroit. We'll work something out, though, sweetie.
On the bright side-you are very strong. I never broke down in front of Allison, but I can't say the same once I finished up each advising session and was alone.
Moreover, your work schedule seems adequate--it doesn't ask you to do too much each weekend, but instead gives you a decent window of time to pace yourself. Make sure you take at least one evening a week still, if you can, for a mental-break.
Puck and Loki give you lots of fuzzy love. He's wanting up on my lap as I write this.
