Weekend at Christine and O's place
May. 8th, 2011 11:24 pmSpent the weekend at O and Christine's place.
There was a big ritual, a fire, some drumming, late night talks, good food, massive snuggles on the big red bed, lots of exercise, more talking, and, of course, petting time with Ash, the affectionate cat who claimed me the first day I showed up there.
So much happened that it's impossible to know where to start.
It felt really, really good.
I'm starting to become good friends with O, who has a sort of crazy, wild-man, your-favorite-uncle vibe about him. He has a way of spinning wonderful tales of odd wisdom and then getting up and wandering off. His stories always leave me with something to ponder.
The kids made breakfast for all the mothers, and I kind of got thrown in for good measure, even though I don't consider myself to be a real, actual mother. Yum, it was good.
A couple of moments:
* Christine woke up this morning praying for the momentum to exercise. Her prayer was answered after breakfast when I announced that we were going walking. I put her through a quickly-paced, three-interval fast walk up and down her hilly road. Christine told me about the prayer as we headed out to start. I'm not sure she felt quite as good about the universe's quick response after the third uphill interval, but she pushed hard and kept up, and I was proud of her.
* Last night's ritual was quite fun. They did something called a scarf dance, which involved luring people into chasing each other and stealing kisses. Whoever had the scarf would drop it in front of someone in the circle, who would then pick it up and chase the scarf's holder until they had caught and kissed them. One of their lovely ladies chose Michael, and after he kissed her, he chose me.
What I didn't know was that as soon as I started chasing Michael, Trent started chasing me---much to the laughter of the whole circle. As soon as I plopped Michael to the ground I felt a small body land on top of mine, much to my surprise. The group exploded in loads of giggling and I thought to myself, "Hmmm, something isn't quite right here," but it was very sweet and terrifyingly cute.
* I'm going to go back later this month to feed everyone Latino food. Christine has a LoterĂa set but doesn't know how to use it, so I'm going to feed everyone rice, beans, fajitas and platanos and show them how to do it. Mmmmm, delicious fun...
* In July, I'm going to run a Blue Star circle for Bill's group so his students can compare Gardnerian and B* forms. I've never shown another trad's group how we/I do this thing, and I'm curious about how that will unfold. I'm not even sure if Christine and O (or any of my FoV friends) have ever seen me work, for that matter. Curious.
