More great news
Dec. 7th, 2010 10:55 amThis fall I've been doing some coaching/writing work with a friend who's wrapping up her diss and a co-worker struggling with an undergrad writing class. I came back to great news on both fronts this morning. My friend turned in her last draft, and my co-worker got a paper grade so high that she's been exempted from taking the final.
Sweet! Love their triumphs.

Poor bunny
Dec. 7th, 2010 08:53 pmI really wanted to title this post "Beautiful men do not understand V-gifts," in the tradition of "Hyperbole and a Half" [ http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/11/dogs-dont-understand-basic-concepts.html ], but Michael
(
mage_imbroglio) is so distressed over this that I will refrain.
Today we almost died laughing over his discovery of LJ V-gifts
[ http://www.livejournal.com/shop/vgift.bml?cat=valentinesday ] and his horror against them:
"Who understands V-gifts? What are they? Pictures of roses? That's like spending 99 cents for NOTHING! V-gifts are ridiculous! Why not just get an icon of the picture you want and use it to post "Happy Birthday" to someone for free?"
After mocking V-gifts so hard that we were all left gasping for breath, I pointed out that I had actually given him a V-gift. "Where is it?" he asked. " I never saw it."
Taking away his iPad and navigating to his User Info page, I showed him the virtual red roses I had given him for his birthday, along with the tender message I had included.
In 2009.

There was silence, and then my poor bunny began trying to extract himself from the whole ridiculous mess. We ended up laughing hysterically over it all over again, and when I got out my computer he said, "Oh no! You got that out just to post about this, right?" Between fits of hysteria, he threatened to counter my post with his own simultaneous post about the ridiculousness of V-gifts.
Personally, I think 99 cents is a bargain for laughter that hard.

"Do V-gifts have a capital 'G' or a lower case 'g'?" I asked while editing this post.
"I don't know," he said. "V-gifts don't really exist in my world".
