The 5 of cups represents disappointment in love, sorrow connected to love, and a loss of love; it's often a mourning card, mourning for a relationship that once was or that could have been.
The 5 of swords is about anger, unhealthy/angry competition and situations in which there are losers and winners in an ugly way: somebody ends up sad, someone ends up a gloating winner; sometimes it just represents simmering anger.
The 5 of discs is about experiencing some form of poverty or inability to let in nourishment, resources, and help...sometimes you are the person trying, often unsuccessfully, to help someone else who can't fully accept it, and sometimes you are the person who is/feels damaged, neglected, or in poverty who cannot/will not accept the healing and nourishment that is actually right there and available. The thing with this card is that healing IS available; it's just not being fully recognized or not being accepted.
The 5 of wands is about conflict and stress, either among a particular group of people or within one's self. It's about unresolved issues and lack of harmonious alignment, either internally or externally.

So yes, the Minor Arcana fives are pretty harsh.

Besides that, thank you for the reminder of the 5s.
