Walking down another street

An Autobiography in
Five Short Chapters

I.
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in,
I am lost
I am helpless
it isn’t my fault.
I take forever to find a way out.

II.
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it,
I fall in, again
I can’t believe I am in this same place
But it isn’t my fault.

III.
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there,
I still fall in
it’s a habit
but, my eyes are open
I know where I am
it is my fault.
I get out immediately.

IV.
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk,
I walk around it.

V.
I walk down another street.

That is spectacular.

Spectacularly accurate, especially if you repeat verse II 10,000 times before moving on to verse III.

I walk down the street
I see a deep hole in the sidewalk
Will I come this way again?
No, then I accept the hole.
Yes, or my "no" was wrong before:
Learn how to repair the hole
So everyone who walks this way will be safe.
You know, just in case...
Fix the hole anyway.

The hole exists to teach us something important.

Yes, i.e., my MOTHER may want to walk down that street and fall in that hole again, but I don't have to walk down it OR fall in it WITH her. (Anticipating conversation I'm going to have with her later on. ;) )

Nope. You don't have to do anything you don't want to do.

Glad Angie sent me here! It's so true.

Sadly, yes. But we can learn.
