Writer's Block: Reconsidering Children's Books

[Error: unknown template qotd]
'The Giving Tree' creeps me out, but 'Where the Wild Things Are' is a manual for growing up.

Also, 'The Little Prince' teaches how to love and what love is, as the prince learns to love his (very human) rose and the fox explains how to tame another and allow one's self to be tamed.

We still have R's first book -- the copy of 'Where the Wild Things Are' that you gave her when she was a tiny baby. I remember holding her over my shoulder so she could see the book while DH read it to her.

'The Giving Tree' seems very sad to me, but not exactly disturbing.

'Peter Pan' has always disturbed me, perhaps because it so perfectly captures the terrifying corners of childhood. I read it as a young child, and loved it even though it was creepy.

The Giving Tree I don't like. The boy never appreciates the gifts and the tree seem very co-dependent since it is only happy when giving even when it has nothing left. some one gave it to my son and when he makes me read it we both comment about how the boy never says "Thank You"
